Lunch Discussion
The Lunch Discussions offer an informal, inspiring setting in which students and staff can engage in conversation about key sustainability issues. Sharing lunch together creates space for exchange, reflection and networking – beyond the confines of formal event formats.
Experience sustainability in conversation
Each lunch discussion focuses on a specific sustainability topic – from social justice and ecological resilience to economic transformation. Modelled on a three-course menu, the discussion is structured in three phases: personal approach, thematic exploration and shared outlook. This brings different perspectives to light and stimulates new ways of thinking.
Whether out of interest, experience or curiosity, all participants are invited to actively participate or simply listen. The aim is to make sustainability topics accessible, tangible and open to discussion within the community. Or, to put it in culinary terms, they should be appetising and easy to digest, and above all, leave you wanting more.

How can students and other young people act resiliently in a time of multiple crises? In this lunch discussion, we will exchange ideas on how people deal with adverse circumstances and the strategies that emerge from them. At the heart of the discussion is the question of to what extent political action can be understood as resilient action: as a path to agency, but at the same time also as a burden that reveals one's own limits.
The lunch discussion is organised by the ESD team in collaboration with Students4Sustainability, the Student Body of the University of Bern (SUB) and the Student Minds Network.
